Mon. 9

Monument : Nefer
Period : Dynasty V
Reign(s) : Nyuserra - Unas (?)
High Date : 2445
Low Date : 2345
Monument type : Mastaba
Localisation or provenance : Saqqara
References : PM III, 2, 639-641; Moussa and Altenmüller (1971).

Nefer was “Inspector of the wabt and Director of singers”. He was the son of Ka-hay (Mon.10) and the brother of Wer-bauw (Mon.11). The occurrences are taken from the list provided in Moussa and Altenmüller (1971, 46). Despite his profession of singer, unlike in the mastabas of his father (Mon. 10) and his brother (Mon.11), there are no occurrences of A108*. Blue is a colour that begins to be used more frequently in these inscriptions, sometimes replacing black (e.g. O1, X1 etc.). The classical canon is clearly taking shape at this time
