Mon. 7

Monument : Sekhentiyu and NeferseshemPtah
Period : Dynasty V
Reign(s) : Unas (?)
High Date : 2375
Low Date : 2345
Monument type : Mastaba
Localisation or provenance : Saqqara
References : PM III, 2, 645; Moussa and Jung (1975).

Sekhentiyu was “Overseer of gold-workers” and NeferseshemPtah was “Overseer of metal-workers”. The occurrences are taken from the list provided in Moussa and Jung (1975, 49-50). Moussa and Jung often refer to the colour orange, even though this colour is hardly ever used in polychrome inscriptions. As there are no colour plates accompanying the list, it is difficult to know whether this is not just a shade of red. However, they state that the red variant of the extended arms D28 is used in all words except skA (“cultivate”) and kAt (“work”) where orange is used instead. If this is not merely coincidence, then the recording of orange instead of red would be justified and highly original.
