The temple of Ramses II at Abydos has both indoor and outdoor polychrome inscriptions. Those outside show a remarkable state of conservation, despite many of them being exposed to strong, direct sunlight. They are carved in low relief on fine, golden sandstone using the full canonical range of colours. The most well-preserved hieroglyphs are found inside the various chapels and storerooms that surround the first and second octostyle halls. As in the temple of Sety I (Mon.59), no fill colours are used. Green is closer to turquoise but easily distinguished from the darker blue. The canon is largely respected.
