The tomb of Nefersekheru has polychrome hieroglyphs whose colours have been altered in the same way as in the tomb of Neferonpet (TT.178 - Mon.42). The strong yellow background has necessitated the modification of all yellow signs to green. Green signs remain green, and blue is hardly distinguishable. Many signs have a white fill. The inscriptions, therefore, appear to be red and green with white fill, all on a golden-yellow background. As in the tombs of Tutankhamun and Ay, this yellow has solar connotations, a scheme now available to nobles as well as to pharaohs. This leads on to the yellow background frequently used on Dynasty XX-XXI coffins, such as that of Unnefer (Mon. 36).
