The images are taken from Hawass (2006, 28-30). Despite a very short reign, Ramses I succeeded in commissioning the construction of a remarkably well-decorated tomb, complete with highly detailed polychrome hieroglyphs. The colours are rich and cover the full canonical range of black, white, red, yellow, green and blue. White is used as a fill colour. The background is blue-grey, paler than that of Horemheb’s tomb (KV.57) but darker than that of Amenhotep III’s (KV.22). The contrast with the rich tones of the hieroglyphs makes the signs highly legible. The bird hieroglyphs of group G are amongst the most beautiful to be found from any period.
